Do popcorn ceilings have asbestos in Ontario?

Yes, popcorn ceilings installed in Ontario before 1990 very likely contain asbestos. Health Canada banned spray-applied asbestos in 1977, but many products continued containing it legally until the early 1990s. If your home was built or renovated during the 1960s–1980s, asbestos is a serious concern.

At KW Popcorn Ceiling Removal & Painting, we recommend testing before any removal work. Our asbestos testing costs $300–$500 (at cost, no markup), and we handle the process safely and compliantly with Ontario regulations.

  • If asbestos is present: Licensed professionals must remove it—we do this safely and legally
  • If asbestos-free: We proceed with standard removal and finishing

Our all-inclusive pricing:

  • Unpainted popcorn: $4.50/sqft
  • Latex-painted: $6.50/sqft
  • Oil-base painted: $7.50/sqft

Most 3-bedroom homes cost $2,000–$4,500. We've completed 500+ projects since 2019 with $2M insurance and full WSIB coverage.
